They're Back! Flea and Tick Season is Here, again. Did it ever go away?
This year is going to be a really rough flea and tick year due to our mild winter. We still love Frontline Plus for dogs and cats. It treats both fleas and ticks. It is completely safe for both cats and dogs. Unfortunately, we have seen many pets treated with Frontline Plus still have a problem with fleas. For these cases, we recommend Comfortis with the Frontline Plus in dogs, or Advantage used 2 weeks after Frontline Plus in cats or dogs. These are products that we have used for years and feel that they work well together. We do realize that this is however a costly treatment regimen.
For clients who are interested, in dogs, we do carry Vectra 3D which treats fleas and ticks. This is a relatively recently introduced product that we do not have a lot of experience with, but we needed to try another product that has been proven to treat both fleas and ticks. This product is toxic to cats! If you live in a household where your cats groom you dog this is not recommended. We would recommend to allow the product to dry fully before allowing dogs and cats to be in the same area together. Unfortunately, there is no other flea and tick treatment, other than Frontline Plus, for cats.
For indoor only cats that are having a problem with fleas, where Advantage or Frontline Plus are not working, we now carry Revolution. This topical product is systemic, unlike Advantage or Frontline Plus, and treats heartworms, intestinal parasites and fleas. The doctors here have been to 3 different dermatological lectures that recommend Revolution as a great flea treatment option.
We, at this time, have coupons and rebate options available for all of these new and old products that we carry, except the Revolution. Just give us a call to find out more about these products.
